AIR

The idea of Air originated from my acquaintance with Red, one of the leading artists of NetEase Games who had been the chief artist of mobile phone game “Kung Fu Panda”.
In a presentation given by Jenova Chen in 2016, Red and I were selected on behalf of the audiences to ask Jenova. After the presentation, we acquainted each other and found our same adoration in the game Shadow of the Colossus. “Hey, why don’t we make a game like Shadow of the Colossus in a sky scenario?” said Red. With this very original inspiration, we started to prepare the project by learning Unity(we normally use NeoX engine, developed by NetEase Games) and reading referential books including Joseph·Campbell’s work, Robert McKee’s drama script tutorial and etc. We also reviewed several movies and games combining ideas that are most related to Air’s, like Bolivia: Miraculous Mirror of the Sky, Journey, Abzu, Empyreal Nocturne and of course, Shadow of the Colossus. With the references, we eventually set our scenario where the Mother Nature is ruined by several huge monsters, lands have sunk and most creatures have died out, expect for a flower. Air, an angel who have survived will take the flower containing seeds to penetrate through the guards of the monsters, only for a hope to find a piece of arable place for the flower to bring about the resurgence of living beings.
Considering our capacity in terms of time and fund, we right now orient Air’s objective result as an interim showcase demo. The substantial development of Air commenced in June 2018. Some the development notes and progress will be recorded and updated in the development progress blog.
